Abstract

Islam is universal code and religion contains therein flexibility in solving questions of any nature. The Ulamas of the early age of Islamic jurisprudence (Usool-al-Fiqah and Fiqah) have laid down the rules and principles derived from Islamic divine text, so that answers can be found to solve the new arising problems. Islam welcomes medical science in every age. Islam wants easiness not difficulty. Plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery on the basis of need and treatment is allowed in Islam. In the case a person losing any limb in any accident, born with a physical defect or extra limb or cut of lips, suffering from deformity or burns which disfigure a person’s features e.t.c, is permissible to undergo plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery to rectify or restore one’s appearance. But when a person for the sake of more attraction, luxurious purpose, vanity or beauty undergoes plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery not for sound reason, it is not allowed in Islam, because these actions are tempering with the creation of Allah.
